Italians are famous for great products. From Food to fashion, from Medical to Industrial, from Mechanic to chemical, from Yachting to Furnitures, from Art to Accomodation service, the range of italian excellence are extremely wide.
However, if you are looking for a supplier for the first time, even if you are used in international trade, you can find some differences in your feedback to inquiries.
1 – Time for feedback to Inquiries. Just a part of suppliers has an export office. This means that sometime you will have to talk with someone of the owning family that cares about sales. It can take time to have a feedback, because the person that will care about your inquiry can be much busy.
Our advice: Be patiente. After a week, if you have no response, resend an inquiry with an email If possible also by fax.
It happened to me that suppliers waited for long time without answers. Being contacted, I discovered that there was a small matters in the Italian company. Apart being much busy, there was a difficult is providing adeguate reply on a potential export, being not used to this. Solved this, a distribution started.
2 – Language: English language, and some time French, German, Russian, Spanish, Chinese are languages used in companies working already from years with export. That is a smaller group of italian companies. If you are looking for something special or not very famous, you could find just a part of these languages known by your potential suppliers. And the level could be much different from company to company.
Our advice: Talk slowly and simply, at least for fist contacts, until you are sure your contact is well understanding your needs. Better to send a list of points seen during phone calls by email, to fo fix the main points of your inquiry and crititcal points to solve.
